A thirty-year resident
of the Roaring Fork Valley and a local bluegrass musician, David specializes in painting the
landscapes of the Roaring Fork Valley near Aspen, Colorado and the Four Corners region of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. In early years, David studied art at
The Colorado Institute of Art, but found he did not enjoy the constriction of commercial
art. He left the field until the
summer of 2002, when in Santa Fe, NM, he became inspired by
the work of master pastelist, Albert Handell. In six years David has more than made
up the lost time. He has studied with
his inspiration, Handell and his partner Anita Louise West
and with the equally inspiring Richard McKinley and Roberta
Remy, Lorenzo Chavez and Doug Dawson. He has recently had works accepted to
the National Exhibitions of The Pastel Society of
Colorado, Signature Member The Pastel Society of New
Mexico, Signature Member The Degas Society David has sold over two hundred
pieces, has several private collectors, and has done a number of commissioned works, one-man shows and has
participated in many other shows. In April of 2006, David moved his
working studio into the Red Brick Center for the Arts in Aspen, where he is happy to receive
visitors. He is also teaching pastel
and plein air classes through the Red Brick as well as Colorado Mountain
College. Aspen Times Article |
